URBAN TXT: Teens Exploring Technology

We are an award winning, nationally recognized technology based start-up non-profit organization that focuses on inspiring at-risk teens, grades 8th - 10th to become confident leaders using technology. Our mission is to develop young men of color into tech leaders through skills in leadership, entrepreneurship, UX design and code. Through our Summer Coding Leadership Academy (SCLA) and other programs, we have been recognized by The White House, City of Los Angeles, Google, Mashable, Re/code, and Inc. Magazine for our innovative approach to youth development and technology education.

Volunteers

Volunteer help is an integral part of our success. Our volunteers contribute in many ways including mentoring opportunities, program administration, organizing and teaching workshops, setting up field trips, marketing, and fundraising. We serve young men of color between the 7th and 11th grade who are from low income communities. Since 2009, we’ve used the concept of developing strong teams as a way for our young men to learn about collaboration, ideation, and long-lasting life skills. In small teams, our youths learn the process of taking an idea from concept to market.
